Obituary of William J. Parmenter

William J Parmenter, 66, of Unionville, MI went home to be with the Lord on April 8, 2017 with his loving wife, Vera, by his side. Bill was born in Caro, MI on July 30, 1950, the adopted son of the late Clarence and Mabel Parmenter. He graduated from Cass City High School in 1968. He then joined the US Army, serving in Vietnam. He married the love of his life & best friend, Vera Cheek on March 13, 1971. Together, they had many memorable adventures together. Bill worked several jobs while raising their daughter, Shelly. After she graduated from high school, their real adventure began as Bill & Vera purchased a 'big truck' and became over-the-road truck drivers for the next 20+ years. They only retired due to Bill's health reasons. He was a lifetime member of the Fairgrove VFW Post 7486. Bill loved spending time with his family most of all. His greatest joy was his family. Bill enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle & Polaris RZR. Bill & Vera spent the last several winters in Arizona and Florida. Bill introduced his family to NHRA drag racing in the early 90's. Together, they made many memories attending numerous drag racing events. He was known by his family for his sarcastic sense of humor. Bill was deeply loved by his family and will be terribly missed forever. Left to cherish Bill's memory are his loving family; his wife & love of 46 years, Vera; daughter and son-in-law, Shelly & Bob Karl; grandson, Billy (Azurah) Karl; granddaughter, Vera (Josh Bills) Karl; father-in-law, Louis (Nancy) Cheek; sister-in-law, Carol (Ed) Gonzales; brother-in-law, Chuck Cheek; brother-in-law, George Russell; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Dolores Cheek; and sister-in-law, Robin Russell. In keeping with Bill's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Bill's life will be held under the old oak tree at Bill & Vera's home in Unionville, Michigan on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 2:00 pm. In the event of rain, the celebration will be held at the Colling Church of the Nazarene in Unionville.
