Obituary of Donald D. McAlpine

McAlpine, Donald D. Caro, Michigan Donald McAlpine was welcomed to his heavenly home in the early morning of June 7, 2017 from Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, at the age of 82. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life and heavenly homecoming will be held at 1pm on June 16, 2017 with Rev. Ronald Wigand officiating at the First Baptist Church of Caro. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. He was born to the late Doyal McAlpine and Julia (McLellan) McAlpine on August 7, 1934 in Owendale, Michigan. Donald graduated from Owendale High School in 1954. He began employment at GM shortly after graduation and worked there for 32 years, where he became a journeyman welder. After he retired from GM he worked part time at Pennywick Tree Farm and Caro Community Hospital in the maintenance depart. In 1982 he married Cynthia (Tait) Witkovsky, and they spent 35 years together in Caro Michigan. Besides his wife, Cynthia, he is survived by 8 children, Jean McCall, Linda (Sherwood) Nickisch, Kelley Fischer (Tim Nichols), Wally Witkovsky (Heather Findlay), Gene (Cindi) Wyman, Saralee Rastikhah, Julie (Henry) Arias and Robert McAlpine. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, David McAlpine, a daughter, Joan George, and her son, Jeffrey George, brothers Duane McAlpine, William McAlpine and Ronald McAlpine. He was a member of the Tuscola County Conservation Club for over 50 years and a past member of the Old Engine and Tractor Association and Lions Club. In early years he loved to fish and hunt. He enjoyed building and crafting and could build most anything. He liked gardening, cooking, old tractors and politics. He loved dogs and cats, and owned many during his lifetime. But his greatest enjoyment was his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, always providing them with words of wisdom. In lieu of flowers, gifts of remembrance can be given to Cass River Pet Friends, or the Family Discretionary Fund.
