Obituary of Richard D. Allen

Allen, Richard Saginaw Township, Michigan Richard D. Allen passed into the arms of Jesus Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at the age of 92 years. Richard Allen was born June 1, 1925, in Detroit, Michigan, to Henry and Mary Ellen. He married Lydia Lillian Bechtel July 27, 1946, and she preceded him in death on June 30, 2014. Richard served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the USS Wichita as a Commanders Orderly. He received nine battle stars and six metals in the Pacific Ocean Theater. He was employed with Severance Tool Company, Morley Brothers and General Motors Corporation (Nodular Iron). After his retirement, Richard especially enjoyed spending time with his grandson, James Richard Gorden; volunteering in local nursing homes as an organist; listening for hours to Gaither Homecoming Videos with his daughter Karla Gorden; and enjoyed the companionship with his dog Kingston. Richard was blessed with eight siblings of which six preceded him in death: the late Alice Taratsas, Gladys McQueen, Millie Ellen, Dave Ellen, Bruce Ellen and Eva Bologna. His two surviving siblings are Virginia Gilman and Betty Sigler. Richard wanted to thank the 4th floor nursing staff at Covenant-Harrison for their dedicated care and birthday party. His family wishes to thank Cartwright Hospice for their compassionate care during his final days. Richard also wanted to thank Hal Bechtel (nephew), Jack Dandy (nephew), Debbie Meyer (niece) and her husband Dale, Dawn Gilman (niece) and Patricia Firkins (niece) for their heartfelt love in his later years. Richard's memorial service with full military honors and entombment will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly Michigan. Memorial offerings are suggested to Cartwright Hospice.
