Obituary of Michael Colindres

Michael A. Colindres Frankenmuth, MI Michael A. Colindres, 91, of Frankenmuth, MI, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2017 at Covenant HealthCare in Saginaw, MI. Mike was born August 12, 1926, in San Marcos, TX, where he attended a military academy until his family moved to the Saginaw area in 1942. He is a World War II veteran, entering the U. S. Army in 1944, operating in a combat role in the Philippines, and earning an honorable discharge in 1947. Following military service, Mike studied to become a CPA at the Saginaw Business Institute, where he met his wife, Martha (Thurston) Colindres. They married in 1949 and had five children. During his career, Mike owned several businesses including his own accounting practice, Hoffman Engraving, Beaverton Food Market, Enterprise Printers and Frankenmuth Printing. He initially met the Zehnder family working as an auditor for the Arthur Schoonover, CPA firm. He enjoyed a 42-year career working for Zehnder's and eventually became the Chief Financial Officer in 1990. He retired in 1995 at age 70, and maintained his personal accounting practice until age 80. Preceding Mike in death are his beloved wife of 67 years, Martha; parents, Michael and Lucy Colindres; daughter, Susan (Colindres) Campeau; sister, Naomi (Colindres) Diaz; and granddaughter, Anne Martha Paetz. Surviving Mike are his daughter, Linda Svec (Charles) of Traverse City, MI; son, Bruce Colindres (Vicky) of Saginaw, MI; daughter, Janet Paetz (Craig) of Sanford, MI; and daughter, Luci Valone (Anthony) of Frankenmuth, MI. Mike's five grandchildren and five great grandchildren and his sister Grace also mourn his loss. On Saturday, September 16, 2017, the family will celebrate the lives of both Michael and Martha Colindres, who passed away October 1, 2016, at a joint memorial service at Cederberg Funeral Home, 590 N. Franklin St., Frankenmuth, MI.
