Smith, Shirley (Ellis) Midland, MI Shirley, age 82, died Sunday, December 3, 2017 at home. Shirley was born December 20, 1934, the daughter of Anson and Catherine Ellis. She attended Midland High School and graduated in 1953. Her request to be cremated and her remains placed with her parents and sister will be honored. She is survived by sons, Dr. Kirk (Sally) Smith and granddaughters Kristin (Patrick) Gilbert and Jenna Smith, Kevin L. (Christina) Smith; grandson, Eric F. Smith & his daughter Kailiana Christine Smith; granddaughter Kaila Smith; and sister, Ethyl (Ellis) Jacobs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Joe Ellis and Bernard Ellis and one sister, Mary Morrison. She retired from the Midland Center of the Arts and maintained very special relationships with Ruth Brown, Nancy Curtis, Kaye Driver, Amy Barons and enjoyed the monthly gatherings for breakfasts. Shirley enjoyed all of the relatives and persons that shared moments of their lives with her. After her kidneys failed, she ceased to enjoy life in general, however, she made the most of her dilemma surrounded by family and friends. The telephone calls she received from thoughtful friends made her life worthwhile. A memorial service will be announced after the holidays. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider taking your favorite person out to a special dinner and enjoy the event. (If you listen to music, think of Shirley's favorite songs, Only the Lonely or Sweet Adeline). To sign online guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com
