Obituary of Ernest A. Wegner

Ernest Alfred Wegner, 97, of East Lansing Michigan Passed away quietly, in Hospice, on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 Ernest was born October 1st, 1920 in Freeland, MI. He graduated from Arthur Hill High school in 1938. Ernest served his country, faithfully, during WWII, oversees, as a Medic with the 201st Hospital Unit of the U S Army, and was honorably discharged on January 15th 1946 Ernest married Bess Sak in 1947, and they had two sons, Daniel E and Bruce E Wegner Ernest worked for Saginaw Products and Sears & Roebuck from 1946 to 1951, Ernest then worked for Bishops Furniture in Lansing MI from 1952 until the time of his retirement in 1978 Ernest was an avid and lifelong pilot who enjoyed many hours in the air, and was instrument certified for both single and multi-engine operation. Later after parting with his beloved Cessna 182, Ernie took up the hobby of Radio Controlled Aircraft with the Capital Area Radio Drone Squadron (CARDS) and was active member with CARDS until 5 years ago. Ernest also participated in a dinner club with a close group of friends. Ernest is survived by his sister Lorraine (Jack) Murlick, his sister-in-law June Wegner, his sons, Daniel (Mary) Wegner and Bruce E. Wegner, all of Saginaw MI, his step-sons Darryl (Sondra) Roberts, Jeff David, Steven David, and his step daughter Sandy (Kenton) Swekard, his grandchildren, Teer (Enoch) Davis, Jeffery D. Wegner and Brian J. Wegner, his great grandchildren, Dakota Lyons, and Chloe Davis, and his great great grandchild, Aberdeen Lyons, and many nieces and nephews. Ernest was pre-deceased by his Parents, Emil A Wegner, his Mother Hattie (Stanko), his 2nd wife Rosemary (Roberts) and his 3rd wife Norma (David), and a special friend, Helen Robinson, also his brothers, Erwin (Erv) Wegner, Richard Wegner, and Robert Wegner, His sister's-in-law, Elaine (Bob) Wegner, and Eleanor (Dick) Wegner, and his granddaughter Rachel Wegner. In honor of Ernie's wishes, Cremation has taken place, and internment will follow, after the services, at Messiah Lutheran and Forest Lawn Cemetery in Dimondale MI. A Saginaw, "Celebration of Life" service will be held at 1:30 PM, on Saturday, February 03, 2018 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 4640 North Michigan Ave, Saginaw MI, 48604. Visitation for Family will begin at 12:30 PM, up to the time of service. A luncheon will follow the service. A Lansing, grave-side memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, on Saturday February 10, 2018 at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 5401 N. Michigan Road, M99, in Dimondale MI, 48821 with VFW Honors to follow. The Family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses, and staff, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing MI, and a very special thanks to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan for their compassionate care and loving support during Ernie's final days.
