Obituary of Homer Stevens
Homer Stevens Jr., age 64, of Hope, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at his home. Homer was born the son of the late Homer and Alice Jean (McKenzie) Stevens on January 15, 1954, in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He was united in marriage to Marguerite "Peggy" McKay on May 12, 1989. Homer was a member of Local 190 Plumbers and Pipefitters and was employed as a pipefitter doing gas distribution work for over 30 years. After his retirement in 2010, he became heavily involved in his hobby of coin operated machine restoration. As with everything that Homer did, honing his skills to perfection, he became renowned for his top-of-the-line capacity for restorations within the pinball community.
Homer is survived by his loving wife and caregiver Peggy Stevens, his son Robert (Nora) Stevens of Beaverton, Michigan; his two grandchildren Robert Stevens Jr. and Christine Stevens both of Beaverton, Michigan; his siblings Sharon Walter, James Cantrell, Larry Cantrell all of Flatwoods, Kentucky, his sister-in-law Kathleen (Daniel) Reaume of Cypress, Texas and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert David Stevens.
In keeping with Homer's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Hope United Methodist Church located at 5278 North Hope Road, Hope, Michigan, at 1pm on Saturday, February 3, 2018, with Pastor Pat Poag officiating.
