Obituary of C. Allen "AL" White
White, C. Allen "Al"
Hope, MI
Al, age 82, passed away at home on March 3, 2018. He was born in Lapeer MI to Cary and Cleo White on September 14, 1935.
Al graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1953 and from MSU in 1958 as a member of the fraternal order Kappa Sigma.
Serving the needs of others was a defining characteristic of Al. He started his career at the Lapeer State home working with mentally disabled children. Next he worked for the Social Security Administration as a District Manager in various locations, retiring in Battle Creek after 24 years of service. Feeling restless, he took a teaching position at Olivet College for 10 years.
In addition, he served as Chairman of the Calhoun County Red Cross and the Dept. of Social Services. He was instrumental in the formation of the Human Services Battle Creek Drop In Center. An avid Antique tool collector, he served as the President of the Midwest Tool Collectors Association.
He also donated his time at the Michigan Welcome Center in Coldwater. Here he was really in his element, as Al literally knew Michigan like the back of his hand. He loved giving visitors directions and suggested places to visit in his lifelong home state, where he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. His passions included traveling (driving) and shopping for the deals!
Al is survived by his wife of 36 years, Marcia; sister, Mary; sons, Mark, Jeff, David and Tim; daughter, Leigh Anne; grandchildren Tawney, Evan, Jacquelyn, Spencer, Drew and Ken; and great-granddaughter, Charlee. Al certainly would want to make sure to thank his niece Nickey Fortune, family, and the Heartland hospice nurses who worked tirelessly to make his last days as dignified and comfortable as possible.
Everyone who met him would agree, he was a big man with a huge heart. He was bigger than this life, and that is why he will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved him. He is missed already. To sign online guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com All sympathy store items must be sent directly to the family home.
