Obituary of Shirley Jean (Gifford) Burgess

Burgess, Shirley Jean (Gifford) Saginaw, Michigan Shirley passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Covenant Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 11, 1932, the daughter of the late Linton and Goldie (Service) Gifford. Shirley married Jack D. Burgess on June 27, 1953, and together they were the proud owners of Arrow Marking Service from 1959 to 1984. She was a member of State Street United Methodist Church. Shirley enjoyed song bird watching, reading, holding her grand babies and watching "The Days of Our Lives." In her younger days she enjoyed bowling, traveling, camping & playing cards. Surviving are her children, Cheryl (Keith) Marx, Tim (Eden) Burgess, Jackie (Dave) Prange and Robin Ann Burgess; her grandchildren, Danny (Louisa) Marx, Jeff (Jenny) Marx, Christina (Don) Smith, Sarah (John) Kohn, Emily (Will) Edsall, Grace (Mark Girardin) Prange, Philip Burgess, Meghan Burgess, Britini (Dane) Kohlhoff; her great grandchildren, Austin, Mark, Jack, Adalyn, Sean, Lillian, Celine, Owen, and 2 little Angels on the Way; her brother,: Norman (Barbara) Gifford; her in-laws, Pat (Jack) Martin, Linda Travis, Jim (Joy) Burgess; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Nancy Burgess. She was predeceased by her husband Jack D. Burgess; her children, Daniel Burgess and Melanie Burgess; her sister Debbie; and brothers, Ray and Larry. The family would like to extend sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff at New Hope Valley Assisted Living Center, Covenant Hospital ICU and Covenant 3 Main for their efforts while taking care of our mom. A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at State Street United Methodist Church, 3617 Mackinaw Street, Saginaw MI. Pastor Monique French will officiate with a luncheon following. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 10:30 A.M. until the time of service.
