Obituary of Jonathan Charles Thomas
Thomas, Jonathan Charles
Midland, MI
Jonathan Charles Thomas, 64, left the turmoil of this world for his heavenly home, on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Mid-Michigan Medical Center, Midland, with his wife Janie by his side, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Jon was born on June 18, 1953 in Fairmont, West Virginia to Isa Jean Gibson Thomas and Charles Thomas. He grew up in Bruceton Mills, West Virginia and graduated from Bruceton Mills High School in 1971. He worked in coal mines and subsequently as an EMT as a young man, and in 1983 moved to Midland to work at Pendell Printing, where he worked for 25 years. Jon was very proud of his work as an auctioneer in the later years of his life.
He leaves his wife, Janie (Benway) Thomas whom he married on March 27, 1992; his children, Hillary Ann Adams (Scott) of Morgantown, West Virginia and Jason Thomas of Brandenville, West Virginia; grandchildren, Chloe Adams and Rilynn Thomas; brother, Ken (Laurie) Thomas of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Deanna Compa, Morgantown, West Virginia; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition he leaves his canine companion, Sophie whom he called "my best girlfriend". Jon's parents preceded him in death.
John was a true lover of people, and will be remembered for his winning smile, his sharp wit and sense of humor, for his love of gospel and country music, and for his willingness to help anyone in need. He loved fishing, and was proud of his wonderful vegetable garden from which he made many culinary creations, including his amazing salsa.
Per John's wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no funeral. A memorial bonfire will take place at a later date for family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Humane Society. To sign online guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com All sympathy store items must be sent directly to the family home.
