Obituary of Loyd D. Darnell

Loyd Donald Darnell, age 75, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019 after a valiant battle with cancer. Loyd was born November 15, 1943 in Weidman, MI to the late Stanley and Eithel Darnell, spending his early years in Mt. Pleasant, MI. Loyd loved to fish. Crappies were his favorite to catch and eat, and anyone that knew Loyd, would at some point, have enjoyed his fried fish and baked beans. His favorite place to fish for sheepshead, was The Jetty's in Port Aransas, TX. He loved wood working and cutting the lawn. Summer was his favorite season, and his favorite flowers were lilacs and plumeria. He married Sandy Burt December 1985. Together, they owned Darnell's Painting and Contracting and Turf Tenders Lawn Care, operating in both Saginaw and Bay City. They had also managed for six years, A Laughing Horse Lodge in Port Aransas, TX. He was a wonderful, compassionate husband, sibling, father and friend. He raised 4 children and a stepson. His laugh was infectious and he could always share a funny one liner at just the right time. Loyd is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sandy Darnell; his children, Douglas Darnell, David (Cindy) Darnell, Lisa (Edward I) Matthews, Lori Darnell; step-son, James Schatzer; 4 grandchildren, David (Ashley) Darnell Jr., Edward Matthews II, William Matthews and Jaclyn Matthews; two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Isabella Darnell. Also surviving are his siblings, Pansy (Bud) Wilbur and Bailey (Virginia) Darnell. Loyd was predeceased by his brother, Jerry and daughter-in-law, Roxanne Darnell. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 PM – 4 PM, February 3, 2019, at Spaulding Township Hall, 5225 Cole Rd., Saginaw, MI. 48601.
