Obituary of Lyle Ernest Mehnert

Mehnert, Lyle Ernest Bay City, MI Lyle passed away peacefully at his home on February 3, 2019. Lyle was born June 13, 1938 in Bay City to Ernest and Clara (Williams) Mehnert. He graduated from Bay City Handy Class of 1956 and from General Motors Institute. Lyle was employed by General Motors - Bay City Powertrain. After retiring from Bay City Powertrain, he worked at his church on the Financial Committee, where he made dear friends. He served on various committees at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Bay City, MI where he was a lifelong member. Lyle will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Above all Lyle loved spending time with his children Stephen Mehnert and Stephanie Mehnert, where he coached his children's baseball and softball teams in the summer. And spending time with his nieces Kris (Dwight) Betz, Paula Straus, Rachel (Bailey) Biggers, and his nephew Charlie Stender Junior. He also loved spending time with Cathy Rex and her family. A special thank you to Cathy, Tim and the Rex family over the past years for all of their help and support. He will also be missed by his sister-in-law Sharon Cabage and nephew Daniel Cabage, with whom he loved attending/watching the Detroit Tigers and Great Lakes Loons games. Lyle was also survived by many loving cousins, and friends. Lyle is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Cabage Mehnert on December 10, 1997; his sister, Nancy Berthiaume on August 9, 2015; and his parents, Ernest and Clara Mehnert. A special thank you for all the love and support he has received these past years from Pastor Richard Starr and Pastor Joel Pankow.
