Obituary of Susan Jean Long

God took Susan (Bertelsmeyer) Long of Vassar, MI to His loving home and freed her from the pain of bone cancer on Monday, April 15, 2019 at the age of 70 years. Sue was born November 21, 1948 in Flint, MI to the late Rev. John and Shirley Bertelsmeyer. She graduated from Vassar High School in 1966 and attended Grand Rapids Baptist Bible College. She began working at Michigan Bell in 1978, and retired from AT&T in 2004. She enjoyed gardening, reading, cookouts with family, lunches with her friends, and traveling. She was married to Mike Long, and together they provided a warm and loving home for their two daughters Jennifer and Becky Long. Sue will be lovingly remembered by Mike, her best friend and husband of 46 years; daughters Jennifer and Becky Long; fondly remembered by her siblings, Shannon Rose and Scott Bertelsmeyer; many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Sherry Nabring. Sue's request to be cremated has been honored, and her ashes will be interred at the family plot in Riverside Cemetery, Vassar Michigan, Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 1:30 pm. A reception will follow at Riverside Grill in Vassar. Any memorial donations the family receives will be split between various charities that were dear to Sue. The family wishes to thank those who have extended emotional support for Sue and the family during her final weeks, along with the amazing staff at Wellspring Lutheran Services (Hospice of Hope) and Dr. Jane Castillo and staff.
