Obituary of Richard Welton Withers

Richard Welton Withers of Vassar, MI, beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away Monday, June 17, 2019 at Covenant Healthcare, surrounded by family. He was the son of William and Alice (Pat) Withers, born April 25, 1966 in Saginaw, MI. He started his working career in 1984 at Zehnder's, where he met his life time partner, Vicki Jessmore. They were married on November 1, 1986. He began working for Wolverine Human Services in 1994 as a cook, and ended his career there in 2017, as the Food and Beverage Coordinator. During his time there, he had the privilege of mentoring hundreds of children. Known as "Pops" to them, he was family. In his free time, he loved spending time with his two grandchildren. He also loved nothing more than a good meal and was the best cook around. He is survived by his wife, Vicki Withers; two children, Tyler Withers and Katie (Don) Sebert; also by his pride and joy, his two grandchildren, Shane and Victoria Sebert; four siblings, Scott (Rose), Russ, Sue, and Chris (Beth) Withers. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews; cousins; and aunt and uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Alice (Pat) Withers. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Calvary Chapel Fellowship of Vassar. A dinner will follow at 1 PM at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 651 State Road, Vassar MI. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center of Flint.
