Obituary of Robert R. Riggs
On Friday, June 28, 2019, Robert Royal Riggs, loving husband and father, passed over at the age of 87. Born May 9, 1932, Bob was the only child of Minnie and Royal Riggs. Bob graduated Clarenceville High School in 1950 and then completed his Bachelor's Degree at Central Michigan University in 1954. Eventually Bob would earn a Master's Degree from the University of Michigan. Bob was a dedicated fan of the sports teams from both of these institutions.
Bob then went into the army and served in the counter-intelligence corp. until 1956. On August 11, 1955, Bob married his longtime sweetheart, Jean, and together they raised daughter Roxanne and son Scott. Bob was active in education both as an administrator and as a teacher for over 40 years. Bob was a gentleman farmer and loved to work the land. Along with Jean and Roxanne, he successfully ran Sunshine Herb Farm in Commerce, MI for over 20 years.
Bob also had a lifelong passion for history, WWII aircraft, and later in life found another interest with classic cars, particularly Chrysler. Bob always loved a good joke and relished telling the classics to friends and family. Bob maintained an extensive library and could readily quote passages from his favorite works. Bob had many close friends and cherished the conversations and relationships he maintained throughout his life.
Bob is survived by his wife Jean; his children, Roxanne and Scott; daughter-in-law, Rita; as well as loving nephews and a niece.
