Obituary of Evelina (Nichols) Broom

Broom, Evelina (Nichols) Bay City, MI Evelina, age 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Huron Woods Nursing Home on July 10, 2019. She was born May 12, 1931 in National City Michigan into a family of 12 children, to the late Hamilton and Etta Nichols of Maple Ridge Michigan. She was a long-time resident of Bay City. Evelina married Fred "Gus" Broom on October 1, 1949, and he predeceased her on October 13, 1989. Evelina enjoyed being barefoot outside in her yard with her flowers, watching the birds that came to the feeders in her yard, spending time with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren, talking on the phone to her sisters, and watching TV with her cat Patty 2. Gus and Evelina had 4 children, Fred "Pete" Broom Jr., Terry Broom of Mesa AZ, and Tina Counterman (Kenny Thorne); 4 grandchildren, Mike Broom and Jonathon Broom both of Mesa AZ, Tanya (Louis) Prieur and Tara (James) Potts both of Essexville; 12 great-grandchildren; and siblings Sal (Jim) Gregory, Bert Ayers, Toot (Charles) Townsend, Ed (MaryAnn) Nichols, and Fred (Julie) Nichols. She was predeceased by her daughter, Carol Guthrie on May 6, 2011; and siblings, Clarence, Elizabeth, Ervin, Hamilton Jr., Ron and Bob. Evelina's family wish to thank Huron Woods Nursing Home for always making her feel like she was one of their family. Her loving and caring personality will be missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. No services are planned at this time.
