Obituary of Robert "Lee" L. King
On Monday, July 15, 2019, Robert Lee King (or, for everyone that truly knew him – "Lee") passed away peacefully with family at Huron Woods Nursing Home at the age of 78 years old. He was born on Saturday, July 27, 1940. Lee was the son of William King and Gilmer King (Morrow) of Pinconning, MI.
Left behind to cherish his memories are his 2 (two) sons: Terrell "Terry" King (Fiancé – Aaron Rodenbo) of Linwood, MI and Kevin King (Wife – Jolie) of Kingsley, MI, as well as his 4 (four) grandchildren: Jacob King; Remmi King; Jacie King; and Lexie King.
In addition, Lee is survived by his brother, Charles King of Bay City, MI; brother-in-law Roger Hoyle (wife - Denise) of North Port,FL, sister-in-law, Barbara Leach (Husband – Daniel) of Linwood, MI. Lee is predeceased by his parents William and Gilmer, brother, Gerald, all of Pinconning, MI, and, his beloved wife, Mary Lou King (Hoyle) of Linwood, MI. 62 years . . . that time span could be a person's life span. However, that time span represents the time that Lee and Mary Lou spent together.
The two fell in love while attending Pinconning High School. Mary Lou – the Academic. Lee – the Athlete. The Prom King and the Prom Queen. No one can doubt that Lee found his counter-weight in love and life in Mary Lou and vice versa. They balanced each other in every aspect of their lives.
Mary Lou – the Artist. Lee – The Handyman. If Mary Lou were to paint a painting, surely Lee would be the man that would hang it. Lee was definitely a "Jack-of-all-Trades" man. He could fix anything that you put in front of him. He fueled his passion for his hobbies and career by "opening up" his mechanical mind on the Freeway that we call "Life."
And, so, Lee went! Lee raced cars and snowmobiles throughout the entire State of Michigan. Notably, Lee was able to enjoy a few laps on the same track of highway that Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Sr. once graced – Daytona 500. To this day, Lee's beloved powder blue, 1974 Chevrolet Pick-up Truck sits in his garage in pristine condition and still on the same radio station. Lee also put his "mechanical mind" to work for himself. Lee was a Journeyman Millwright at GM for nearly 35 years. He happily retired at 55 years old, along with Mary Lou. During their time together, they visited 49 of the 50 United States. Often seen traveling throughout the United States in their motor home, along with their beloved dogs. After retiring, the couple became "Winter Texans" in Missions, TX. Throughout the years, they adopted several dogs that they loved and cared for. In addition, they volunteered countless hours at Cinderella Pet Rescue of Mission, TX. Finally, no one can doubt that Lee loved his friends and family. Lee and Mary Lou were often referred to as "The Number One Fans" at many of their grandchildren, niece and nephew's sporting events. In addition, when Lee and Mary Lou would attend family events, many people commented that it turned into a "dog park," given the number of dogs that they adopted and loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that charitable contributions be made to the Cinderella Pet Rescue, P.O. Box 533, Penitas, TX 78576. In respecting Lee's wishes, no funeral or memorial service will be held. To sign online guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com Arrangements made with Cremation Society of Mid Michigan.
