Obituary of Barbara Johnson Trnka

Barbara (Johnson) Trnka, age 83 passed away in her family's presence July 27, 2019. Barbara was born in Flint, Michigan and was a daughter of Thomas and Ethel (Cotterman) Johnson. She was a graduate of Flint Northern High School and lived in the Flint area her entire life. She married Theron L. Trnka on May 12, 1957. Barb retired from the Flint Board of Education and remained a lifelong advocate for children and basic human decency throughout her life. She also loved to spend time with her sisters, brothers, family and friends, as well as gardening and travelling. Barb is survived by her children, Connie L. (Trnka) Kale and Scott L. Trnka, both of Michigan, granddaughter, Erica; the Sisters Big, Gertrude (Johnson) Newman, Margret (Johnson) Johnson, Janet (Johnson) Helfrich, Deborah (Johnson) Markley, Ellen (Johnson) Loney, all from Michigan; brothers, Tim Johnson, Tom Johnson and Luke Johnson, all originally from Michigan; many nieces and nephews. Barb was preceded in death by her husband, Theron Trnka; son, Steve Trnka; brother, Jack Johnson; and her parents, Thomas and Ethel Johnson. The family asks in lieu of flowers, you bring school supplies to the memorial for donation to a local school. A memorial is being planned for a later date. On July 27, 2019 Barb saw her husband and son (as well as many others) again for the first time in years, her home going was filled with love.
