Obituary of Mildred R. Voorheis

Mildred Ruth Voorheis moved on to her heavenly home on her 97thbirthday, Monday, August 12th, 2019, at Maple Woods Manor in Clio, MI. Mildred was born on August 12, 1922 to Harry and Henrietta Hartson, in Wolverine, Michigan. She attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois and was the first woman to graduate from the Mission Aviation Program as a pilot. Mildred had a passion for serving Jesus and a heart for missions. She married Byron W. Voorheis Jr. and together they served as evangelists. Mildred had a special love for children's ministry, she used gospel magic and ventriloquism to teach children bible stories. Mildred touched countless hearts and lives with her ministry and her love for Christ. Later in her life Mildred worked making signs at Meijers in Flint, Michigan. She attended Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Mt. Morris, Michigan, where she taught Sunday School, Bible studies and worked with the Awana program. Left behind to cherish her memory and her life are her son Byron W. Voorheis III and his wife Michelle, her daughter Ruthie Van Gilder, her step-son James Voorheis and his wife Patricia, her grandchildren, Jason Van Gilder, Nicole Lutz and her husband Max, Byron W. Voorheis IV, and Kirsten Love and her husband Brian, her great-grandchildren Jacob and Bella Lutz and Brandon, Erica and Audrey Love, her brother Roger Hartson, her sister Dorothy Sherwood and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place but there will be a time to visit with family and friends on August 27th from 5:00-9:00 pm and a Memorial Service followed by a luncheon on August 28that 11:00 am, both will be held at Colonial Hills Baptist Church, 5375 W.
