Obituary of Nicolaas "Nick" D. Fourie

Nicolaas (Nick) Daniel Fourie, age 84, of Vassar, passed away on November 3, 2019. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gina Ackermann, and his beloved dog, Susie. He is survived by his wife, Lucinda Kay Fourie, children Erik and Stephani, their respective spouses, Dawn and Yuan, and by his grandson, David. Nick was born on September 12, 1935 in Paarl, South Africa. After finishing primary and secondary schooling, he earned a scholarship to Kettering University (then GMI) in Flint, Michigan and completed degrees in Mechanical and Quality Control Engineering. While finishing his studies, he met and married Lucinda Kay Evans in 1967. Nick and Lucinda traveled the world before finally settling in Vassar, MI to raise their two children and to grow old together. Nick loved his family, sailing and mowing the lawn—in that order. Nick hated sloppiness, snow and any orange or yellow-colored vegetable. He will be sorely missed. The family is planning a private memorial.
