Obituary of Clarice "Sadie" Katherine DesJardin

Clarice Katherine "Sadie" DesJardin Clarice "Sadie" DesJardin, age 96 years, passed away on December 4, 2019 in Saginaw, MI. She was born in Calumet Township, MI on July 18, 1923 to Scottish immigrants Harry and Peggy (Weir) Shannon. After her graduation from Houghton High School she joined the U.S. Coast Guard, was stationed in Philadelphia, and eventually posted to Hickham Field in Hawaii post Pearl Harbor. She then attended LSU obtaining a certification in cosmetology. After returning to Michigan she met and married Francis "Pinky" DesJardin on May 7, 1949. Sadie and Pinky lived most of their life in and around the State of Michigan as required by his postings as a Michigan State Police officer and raised four children. They also built a cabin on Lake Michigan near the Rapid River, and spent many happy summers there with family and friends. In later years Sadie also maintained a residence in Largo, FL. She enjoyed sewing, traveling and reading, but her main focus was always family. She was quick to make friends and will be fondly remembered by all who were lucky enough to know her. Sadie has joined her parents, husband, daughter DeeDee, 5 siblings, and 11 of her husband's siblings. She has also left a legacy of love with those she had to leave behind: daughter, Peggy (Lynn) Ash of Indiana; beloved son-in-law, Thomas Trombley of Saginaw, Daniel (Bonny) DesJardin of Hillsdale and David (Marta) DesJardin of Tennessee; 7 grandchildren, Aaron (Amy) Ash of Reading, Amy (Scott) Hawkins of Hillsdale, Matthew Ash of Jonesville, Brian (Missy) DesJardin of Hillsdale, Nicole (Dwaine) Daniels of Florida, Michael (Cathy) DesJardin of Wayland and Jon Paul DesJardin of Hillsdale. Sadie is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Agnes Ahola of Houghton; and many much loved nephews and nieces. As per Sadie's wishes, cremation has taken place. No memorial services are planned. Several charities were near to her heart and donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, the Salvation Army, Honor Flight, or any veterans organization.
