Obituary of Marjorie Smith

Marjorie Smith, age 71, of Montrose, MI, passed away on December 11, 2019. She was born to the late James D Wolf and Doris (Zissler) Wolf, on February 3, 1948, in Saginaw, MI. Marge graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1966. She soon after married her husband, Gary J. Smith before he left for Vietnam. They were married on April 15, 1967, in Foster, MI. In February, 1973 they welcomed their only child, Jennifer Ann Smith into their family. Marge stayed home and took care of her household and family for many years. Once her daughter was working independently, she realized she no longer needed to be home and decided to find a job. Marge worked for Zehnder's Bavarian House, Frankenmuth, MI as a housekeeper/laundress for several years before helping to raise her grandchildren. Marge then took a job at Riverside Market, Montrose, MI where she happily worked in many positions including carryout, dairy/frozen foods, health and beauty, produce, and deli. She retired in 2011 due to medical reasons. She enjoyed spending time with her family, including many nieces and nephews, and cooking but not the cleanup. Some of her hobbies included puzzles, especially the 3D kind, and crafts that kept her fingers nimble to stave off arthritis. Once she found something she loved she went wholehearted into collecting and displaying; chickens in her kitchen, pitcher and bowls throughout the house and most recently glass to be used on special occasions. Marjorie is survived by her husband Gary; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and John Hoornstra; granddaughters, Elizabeth Ann-Louise and Savanah Rose-Marie; brothers, James (Avis) Wolf, Gerald (Pam) Wolf, Mark (Patti) Wolf, and Jeffery (Elaine) Wolf. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Doris Wolf; sisters, Patricia Hetfield, ChongSun "Jo" Wolf, and Elle Charbanaue-Wolf; and brothers, John Wolf and Frank Hetfield. Expressions of sympathy are appreciated but not requested. Instead, the family asks that you please keep Marge's memory alive in your heart and take a moment to send that love out into our world that she left behind. The family has entrusted the Cremation Society of Mid-Michigan (1-888-273-3553) with the arrangements. A brief prayer service and inurnment is planned for January 3, 2020, at Great Lake National Cemetery. To sign online guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com
