Obituary of Jerry Lee Morse
Morse, Jerry Lee
Birch Run, MI
Today we celebrate the life of a great friend, husband, family man, and animal lover, Jerry, age 79, passed away Friday, January 10, 2020. Jerry was born November 11, 1940 to the late Emerson and Bertha (Schmitzer) Morse in Birch Run, MI and was know as Jerry Lee only to his mother. He was a lifelong resident of Birch Run, and in his later years was known by many as the man that walked Fred through town. He married Clara M. Owens on August 6, 1966 in Birch Run, MI., and they shared 53 anniversaries together.
He worked at Universal Engineering for 20 years, and then at GM/Dephi/Nexteer where he worked until his retirement in 2005. He was a well-respected and sought after Tool Room Grinder who took great care and pride in his work. He loved being up at the cabin, as it was his second home (only because it was too far from work and other family). In his youth, he spent time up north with his Grandfather Schmitzer, building his love of the area. He loved to travel all over the United States, every summer going with his family, and especially with his grandchildren. His especially loved spending as much time as he could with his nine grandchildren.
He was an avid deer hunter and made it out to the hill, no matter what. As his eye sight decreased he enjoyed listening to Adam, Deland, Tyson, and Josh's hunting stories, stories they were always willing to share. He loved his family dogs over the years, and treated them as people in his family. In his later years and into retirement, he shared 'Fred', Adam's dog, and loved to taking him for walks and to the beach to chase Swans. He also loved it when Kelly's 'Bailey' came over and would chose to spend the night sleeping on his lap. One of his favorite things, and he was good at it, was getting a baby to calm down just by lying on his stomach and cooing to them. All little kids were comfortable around him, even if they were meeting him for the first time.
Surviving are his wife Clara; their children, Stacey (Morse) Geroux and husband Louis, Kelly Morse-Reed, and Adam Morse; extra special family friend, Josh (Nicole) Weed; nine grandchildren, Uriah, Ileona, Xavier, Paige, Ezra, Isley and Zoya Geroux, Donald, Jerry and Richard Emerson Reed. He was predeceased by his older brother, Edward E. Morse; his sister, Tanya Sims; and many loved Aunts and Uncles.
