Obituary of Judith Merle Hollenbeck
Judith Merle Hollenbeck, age 80, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2020.
Judy was born May 20, 1939 in Twining, Michigan to the late Dolores and Charles Norton. She married Joseph Hollenbeck January 25, 1958 and divorced in 1980.
She is survived by her four children; Rick (Lil) Hollenbeck, Dennis (Deb) Hollenbeck, Sara (Jeff) Gale, and Patrick (Diana) Hollenbeck; ten grandchildren, Scot, Mark, Justin, Joel, Joshua, Sasha, Myrica, Brianna, Staci and Casey; 8 great-grandchildren; one brother, Tom (Carol) Norton; one niece, 3 nephews and several great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and one brother, Merlin (Buck) and his wife, Janet Norton.
Judy retired from working as a bookkeeper for 30 years at Turner Bean & Grain in Turner, Michigan. Judy had many hobbies she enjoyed throughout her life. She loved doing crafts, embroidery, and putting together jigsaw puzzles. She dabbled in upholstery of furniture for several years refurbishing several couches, a chair, an ottoman and other smaller projects. Judy created her own rugs out of burlap bags. She would cut strings of 1/4 inch wool she salvaged from worn wool clothes, make a design on the burlap and pull the wool through with a hook. The rugs were beautiful and usually a gift for family or friends. The craft she was most endeared to was making quilts. She made quilts for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many other babies in the community. She took great pride in the quilts, especially finishing several quilts started by her grandmother, Sarah Miller.
Per Judy's request there will be no service held. In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the National Kidney Foundation. To sign online guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com
