I grew up with the Whitey brothers in Charlevoix. I can remember Randy and Paul were the two youngest brothers. I was a good friend with Chris and knew Craig too. I can remember riding out to the Winnick farm in the back seat of Jigs' Z-28. Also going to Detroit with Chris and his dad, Jerry, to lay carpet at the Whittier Hotel. I'm saddened to hear this terrible news. My deepest sympathy to Randy's family and all the Whitleys.

Dehlia—I loved your dad! He used to ride with me to Charlevoix when I was dating my husband Tim back in the late 80's and 90's who was working there for a year and a half. I'd go up on weekends and your dad was often my "shotgun". He never failed to give me a smile and a hug when he came in the credit union in the years that followed. I really will miss his smile and his optimism and so much more. My thoughts are with you, such a difficult time to lose someone not that it's ever easy. I hope Jackie will let me know if there's a memorial or whatever might be planned for the future. He loved you very much and was so proud of you. I'm so sorry for your loss and the world's loss.

Paul, Andrea and Saint Dorothy, my brother Michael let me know of Randy's passing. How very sad Randy was taken at such a young age. I remember with great happiness Randy's smile and sense of humor. I remember those days swapping hunting and fishing and sports stories while visiting g at the Whitley house! A visit with Randy always made you happy. I know how close knit the Whitley family is and how this must hurt. But, I can see Randy smiling and swapping stories and jokes with all the Whitley Family and Friends that have gone before. Hope everyone is okay knowing Randy is in a good place!

I was so sad to hear about Randy. I have so many memories of the entire Whitley family having grown up with you on Hillgrove Court. So many long summer nights playing baseball in your side yard, sledding on the big snow pile in the center of the court and playing with Colonial Luke. It was a wonderful neighborhood to grow up in because of families like yours. I am very sorry for your loss and wish you healing days ahead with your memories helping you get through this difficult time. Loving thoughts to your entire family, Liz (Beth) Petrella-McKellar

Our hearts ache for Dorothy and family. We are so sorry and will miss visiting with Randy, especially around hunting season. He made everyone feel special and always came with hug and a smile. Randy will be missed by all that knew him.

I learned so many things from you Randy...that there is always enough food to add another chair to the table...that people matter more than things...that family should be cherished no matter what differences there might be...and that life is meant to be shared. You showed me why food is special by its power to bring people together. I loved your attitude for tackling projects and being willing to ask a friend for help if you hit a snag...because you had so many friends you would learn from somebody what to do next time. Most of all, I loved how you adored your daughter and included her in everything you did. Because of that she will be a strong successful woman. I am grateful to have known you and that my children had you as an Uncle. You're forever in our hearts!!!!

Randy, you are soooooo very loved. A truly beautiful soul, kindness, fun and fast conversation (Especially when you and Craig were talking!!) poured out of you effortlessly. You didn't go anywhere or do anything with out thinking what you could do or buy to cook or can to make life better for others. You were forever putting everyone first. Your heart was enormous. It will be such an incredible day when we get to see you again one day when we all come to the table. I've told you before but I know that you realize now how truly loved and cherished you were/are to this entire family. Forever and always. Cindy Whitley

Last summer, Randy was up visiting Jodi and Pat, and learned that it was my son's 7th birthday, and that he would be spending time at the cabin. Randy organized and orchestrated a party for Liam - cake, balloons, the whole 9 yards. He had never met Liam before, but anyone who knows Randy knows that wouldn't even register - it's a little kids birthday; of course you celebrate! I know Randy mostly through the stories of his friends, and I wanted to share that memory with his family. I appreciate the person he was, and I will never hear his name or think of him without smiling a little smile and remembering how special he made Liam feel that day.
