Mr. Agresta was my history teacher at St. Mary's and he made history come alive. He was also my track coach, and I remember early on in my training in the parking lot at St. Mary's, he yelled at me "Myers, quit running like a girl; lengthen your stride.' In the one meet I participated it, I came in 4th. Mr. Agresta was on the side-line grinning ear to ear. I so enjoyed reconnecting with him on Facebook. He had a passion for running, a social consciousness like no other, and a heart of gold. I will miss you, Mr. Agresta. (Louise Myers Dunn)

Mr. Agresta was my U.S. History teacher in my Junior year and was both our football and basketball coach while I was in high school at St. Mary's, '63-67. He was an inspiration to me in both rolls. It began my love of History (I ended up teaching it) and I thought he was one of the most cerebral and inspiring coaches I've ever seen. Rest in peace Mr. Agresta. Dan Caulfield

I remember Bill as quirky, and funny, and so very intelligent. Bill helped me to be a pretty good runner, and he also made me a better person. He pushed me to set higher goals, to Dig! Dig! Dig! to keep forward and upward momentum on that last hill before the finish line...He showed me the value and the dignity of putting in the time and the effort to achieve something. He taught me the power of a few simple words of support. Thirty-five years after being a student in Mr. Agresta's classroom and a runner on Bill's cross country team, I too am a teacher and coach, and I'm hoping that I am making a positive impact on my students like Bill did with me and with so many others! Through his teaching, his coaching, and his philanthropy, Bill made a difference in the lives of thousands of people, and I am proud to be a small part of his legacy. Thanks, Coach.

Bill was our coach & gym teacher at Saginaw St. Mary Cathedral. He is the ONLY person I have ever seen that could (& did) walk upside down on his hands around the entire perimeter of the gym

Other than my parents, Bill Agresta was the greatest influence in my life. He pushed me to be better, to reach for goals that otherwise might not have seemed attainable.
I remember coming into Hemlock High School as a freshman, a skinny little kid that wanted to play football. Bill grabbed me and said, "Maybe you can be good at football, but I can help you be a great runner!" Four years later I was part of a special family of runners in Hemlock, too many great friends to list. I ended up with a scholarship to Northwood University, where I received a degree that allowed me to land my dream job and where I met my future wife and mother of my two great kids. All of this happened because Coach Agresta saw something in me that I didn't see in myself.
Coach Agresta built the running culture in Hemlock with sheer will-power, creating a dominant track and cross country program that was feared and respected throughout the State. More importantly, he changed lives. He made people better. He taught all of us about life, the importance of friendship, and how to "find that extra gear" to accomplish the goal. He was a GREAT man.
I think of him often. He will live forever in my memories and will continue to influence my decisions for the rest of my life.
Run well, Bill!

To The Agresta Family --
Bill:
You were the best of the best in your age group in the running circuit. You always ran with style and class.
"I haven't forgot the promise -- I will bring the Adidas Oregon running shoe to heaven -
your favorite shoe. :) Smile! Then Hal Smith, Ray Bartels, Jim Finnlayson, Al Kayner,
and Larry Sundberg , Tom Durrin, Terry Rock still won't be able to catch you. :), :)
Thanks much, much for the many years of road races all over the country. Thanks for
the many years of friendship, encouragement, and running with a smile. The die hard
runners of the 70's, 80's, 90's and early 2000's will always cherish your presence and
memory."
Our sincere condolence to Bill's son - Sam and daughter and family.
