Dorothy Kurchak, age 80, passed away Friday, August 7, 2020. She was born December 13, 1939 to the late Clifford and Leahbelle Shue in Royal Oak, MI.
After graduation from Pinconning High School, Dorothy went to Minneapolis, Minnesota to pursue her dream of becoming a flight attendant. Instead, she met Bernie Harkanson, whom she married on June 1, 1962 in New York City. Over Christmas of 1966, Dorothy, Bernie, and their two young sons moved to Pinconning. In addition to raising her two children, Dorothy worked as a nursing assistant during this time.
Bernie died in 1969. On December 14, 1974 Dorothy married Mike Kurchak of Pinconning. As the kids grew up and left home, Mike left farming to enter the world of trucking. Dorothy went with him, logging thousands of miles behind the wheel of a big rig. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, quilting, baking, and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the Standish Free Methodist Church.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Benjamin Harkanson; stepsons, Michael and Steven Kurchak; stepdaughters, Carla (Mrs. Don) Revord, Susan (Mrs. Michael) Kestly, Patricia (Mrs. Brian) Robbins; stepdaughter-in-law, Irma (formerly Mrs. John) Kurchak; and grandson, Nicholas Dillard. She was predeceased by her first husband, Bernard Harkanson; her second husband, Michael Kurchak; her son, Charles Harkanson; her stepson, John Kurchak; her sister, Norma Justin; and her brothers, Paul and Gilbert Shue.
A Memorial Service will take place at 11 AM, Saturday, August 22, 2020, at Faith Baptist Church 4544 M-61 Standish, MI,with Pastor Kevin Switzer officiating. Flowers are always welcome, and for those who desire, memorial contributions will be available for Tony and Trish House (tonyandtrishhouse.org) of Auburn, MI, where Dorothy spent her last week.
