I met rich going to college many years ago and our paths had crossed several times over the years. In the last couple of years we were able to get to know each other a little better. The last time we met it was for therapy sessions to help him get stronger and do more for himself. However, his body limited him but he had realized that he was were he was going to be. Here liked the staff as much as they liked him. He would have words of wisdom for them and was supportive. Unfortunately when Richard lost a dear friend, his wind was taken away from him and he never was as strong as he was before. A little less fight. However, he still was full of spirit. He will be greatly missed.

I was so sad to hear of Richy's passing. I went to high school with Richy but lost contact with him. I was so fortunate to find him again on FB, and I was able to visit him from time to time on my trips up north. What a treat his posts on FB were. I could almost smell the coffee and banana bread baking in the oven, and I was alway heart warmed to hear of the deer or bird outside his window. I don't know, I always felt a kind of peace reading his posts! When he moved into the nursing facility, I felt a kinda loss myself for his peaceful home setting, but Richy always made the best of everything, and soon we learning about his new friends and his wonderful caregivers. I know the staff must of really loved Richy and spoiled him; how could you not? Thank you for taking such good care of him. Again we were hearing of the activity outside Richy's window; especially his friends visiting outside due to covid! When I think about how Jesus would return to this world; I think as a HIPPY would be a great example. Richy was filled will Love, Peace, and Compassion; God must be so happy to have you home! The curtain to Richy's window might be finally drawn, but the world outside was so enriched by his presence here on earth.
"GO REST HIGH ON THAT MOUNTAIN,
Son, your work on earth is done.
Go to heaven a-shoutin'
Love for the Father and the Son!

I went to high school with Rich at Carl Brablec High. I knew then he was an unusual soul, always upbeat, considerate, empathetic, kind and loving. We lost touch of each other over the years until we re-discovered each other on Facebook. I spent many hours getting to know him again and remembering how wonderful he is. I sent him some patchouli oil for his beard one day (I think there were many of us that spoiled him with goodies because he was so deserving) and he was so grateful for the gesture. We shared our love of music (old and new) and our views of the world. I will miss you my dear friend, RIch! I hope you're driving off in your VW bus with the peace signs on it, free of pain and happy at last to run free.

I met Rich a long time ago, at Java Junction back when it was downtown and Sherry was running the place. Rich and bonded over, among other things, our time spent in west Michigan and we shared many stories, not all of them about the culture shock we both experienced. I don't remember Rich ever saying a mean or nasty word about anyone. I will miss him as I continue on my life's journey, and hope to emulate his spirit while doing so.
