Obituary of DeVere 'Don" Woods

DeVere "Don" Woods, age 91, passed away August 17, 2020. He was born in Hampton Township on February 24, 1929 to the late Devere and Wilma Woods. He served in the Army Air Forces/United State Air Force. He joined the Civil Air Patrol in 1944 as a cadet, and served for many years as a Squadron Commander, Group Commander, and Deputy Commander of the Great Lakes Region. He was a Plant Manager at Bay City Steel Casting, and then went on to become the first Central Dispatch Director for Bay County. He also was the Director of Bay County Emergency Services, Air Division, Marine Division, and Reserve Division. He enjoyed flying, photography, wood working, and working on cars. He also enjoyed writing and wrote a book called "S.A.R. Pilot". He is survived by Ida Mae Woods, his wife of 70 years. Also surviving are his sons, Dr. DeVere (Martha)Woods Jr. and Dean Woods; daughter, Sarah (Thomas) Greene; grandchildren, Matthew (Elena) Woods, Kathleen Woods, Cory (Ellen) Huizar, and Thomas Greene; and great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Isaiah.
