Gloria Cook

Obituary of Gloria J. Cook

Gloria J Cook, 75, of Cass City died on Tuesday September 29, 2020 in Tuscola County. Gloria was born April 17, 1945 in Bad Axe, Michigan the last of fourteen children born to the late David Frederick Harris and the late Edythe Mae (Mattice) Harris. Gloria had a great love for family and learned the value of family at a young age when her father David died unexpectantly. Her older siblings banded together to provide her with love and to support their mother in raising Gloria in Verona, Michigan until she became a young adult. Gloria received her early education in a one room schoolhouse in Verona. She went on to graduate from Bad Axe High School in 1963. Gloria would frequently recall her grade school memories with her family, mentioning her favorite classmates and even how they snuck into drive-in movies from time to time. She maintained friendships with several classmates well beyond graduation. After graduating high school Gloria joined the workforce accepting a job with General Cable in Cass City. While employed with General Cable, Gloria met Harold Gene Cook and became his wife on September 26, 1964 in Bad Axe, Michigan. Her older brother Fred walked her to the front of the Nazarene church on the day she married Gene. During their 56 years of marriage Gene and Gloria raised three daughters and one son. Gloria loved to visit with friends and family. She maintained a lifetime relationship not only with her siblings but with Gene's siblings as well, and even their spouses and children. She carried a deep love for all family, and always greeted each with a smile and a warm hello. Gloria spent countless hours caring for her family and her grandchildren. She attended school and sporting events, graduations and weddings to show her support and true love for each of them. Gloria always asked each how they were doing at every opportunity she was given. She even included their friends and pets in the inquiry. Gloria enjoyed gardening and baking, even making homemade candies and caramels using a recipe from her youth. Gloria enjoyed family gatherings, especially holidays when her children and grandchildren were able to visit. Frequently, Gloria met with her siblings and enjoyed visits over a meal or baked goods. She loved to catch up with their lives and exchange family photos. Gloria loved the summer season when she could add some beauty to the lawn by planting her favorite annuals. There is no bigger Detroit Tiger fan than Gloria. She made certain the season game schedule was printed and near so she would not miss a broadcasted game. Gloria loved a good garage sale and seldom left a sale without something to bring home. Card games were a favorite and often at family events you could hear Gloria ask "who's got the cards?" Gloria is survived by her husband of 56 years Gene Cook; children Laurie Cook of Caro, MI, Debra Cook and Paul Cook of Cass City, MI, and Heidi (Jeremy) White of Fountain Inn, SC; grandchildren Amber Heckroth of Davison, MI, Bryan Buschlen of Owendale, MI, Kolton (Hannah) Cook of Fountain Inn, SC, Hunter (Kimberly) McGrath of Fort Campbell, KY, Kylie McGrath of Cass City, MI, Seth Cook and Natalie White of Fountain Inn, SC; great grandchildren London Cook and Huntleigh Cook of Fountain Inn, SC and Alayna McGrath of Fort Campbell, KY. Also surviving Gloria is her sister Lucille Anderson of AuGres, MI; mother-in-law Zellen (Tommie) Cook of Cass City, MI; sister-in-laws Karen Harris of Texas, and Sharon (Lee) Ackerman of Spaulding, MI; brother-in-law Michael Cook of Vassar, MI, and many nieces and nephews. Gloria will be missed by many as she is welcomed into Heaven by those who passed before her. And think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched, for nothing loved is ever lost and she was loved so much.
