Nancy Raymond

Obituary of Nancy A. Raymond

Nancy A. Raymond, age 87, of Clare, Michigan, passed away at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland on October 23, 2020. Born Nancy Ann Stevens on January 6, 1933, the daughter of the late Kamiel and Gladys (Hillard) Stevens, in Sheridan Township, Clare County, Michigan, Nancy spent her early childhood on a farm in Sheridan Township. Later in her childhood Nancy's father moved the family to a farm he purchased in Loomis, Michigan. Nancy met artist/musican/rodeo rider Rod Raymond while he was recovering from a bull riding accident at his mother's home in Loomis. They married on October 1, 1949. Together they raised three sons, travelling to Arizona and California for winters while their boys were young. While raising her young sons, Nancy completed her nursing course and became a licensed practical nurse. She worked at Clare Hospital for many years. Nancy loved her work, especially the fast pace in obstetrics and emergency. Affectionately called Nancy Nurse, she was a feisty free spirit with a fierce sassy streak and an infectious laugh and smile. Nancy's home was always warm and welcoming to all. She could stretch a pot of chili further than anyone. She took in many a stray soul in need of a home whether for a day, a year, or while a kid finished high school. Nancy loved roaming the shores of Lake Michigan and Lake Superior and collecting rocks, fishing with her sons, and especially hitting the road to find yard sale and thrift shop treasures. She loved the music and art created by her kids and grandkids. She was crafty herself, making stuffed animals, dolls and beaded items; always as gifts. Not one to spend too much time in the kitchen, we still counted on her fudge and molasses cookies every Christmas. Nancy leaves a legacy of love and generosity for us to cherish. Nancy is survived by her sons, Rex (Letha) Raymond of Lake Station, MI and Randy (Janet) Raymond of Clare, MI; step-daughter, Deborah (John) Drees of Ludington, MI; sister, June Pelton; brother-in-law, Jeffery Raymond; five grandchildren; and 8 great-children. Nancy was predeceased by her eldest son, Rod Jeffery Raymond; her brothers, Velmer and Francis (Bud); and her sisters, Delphine (Tillie), Madeline and Barbara. Reflecting Nancy's heart and caring for those in need, if you are considering a memorial donation, please think of Clare Food Pantry (Mid Michigan Community Action Agency) or Central Michigan Toys for Tots. A gathering to remember Nancy and celebrate her life is planned for summer 2021. Online guest book may be signed at www.cremationsocietymidmi.com. Arrangements made with Cremation Society of Mid Michigan. Sadly, Nancy was NOT surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing. Covid-19 does not allow for that. Yes, we know she was 87. However, she was doing pretty well and, but for contracting Covid, she would have had a bit more life to enjoy. She was a trooper while waiting out eight months of isolation to protect herself from Covid, continually expressing her concern for all of us. Nancy Nurse's final wish would be that we all wear our masks, keep our distance, wash our hands, and avoid crowds. You know… just trust the science and care about each other. All sympathy store items must be sent directly to the family home.
