James Chambers

Obituary of James Harry Chambers

James (Jim) Chambers, 83, of Sanford, MI, died Sunday, November 8, 2020, at University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor, after a valiant battle against pancreatic cancer, surrounded by family. He was born March 30, 1937 in Gainesville, MO, the son of the late Glen and Velva (Farless) Chambers. Jim married Barbara Dymond, on September 7, 1957 in Freeland, MI. He retired from the Dow Corning Corporation in 1991 as a pipefitter/welder after 33 years of service. Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved spending time with his family and friends. He lived life as the Luke Bryan song goes, “Huntin’, Fishin’ And Lovin’ Every Day”. He cherished the time with his hunting and fishing companions, especially his long-time canine companion, “Boots”. He was known by his family as the “one who could fix anything,” and spent countless hours tinkering in his “dog house” and pole barn. If he couldn’t fix it, you probably didn’t need it. In their formative years, his sons believed that an appliance/television repairman/electrician/ plumber were all these unseen mythical beings, like Big Foot or the Loch Ness Monster. Jim was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and very active behind the scenes helping in any way that was needed. In his later years, he and Barb enjoyed their winters with all their new friends in Mexico Beach, FL. Survivors include his devoted wife of 63 years, Barb, and sons, Glen (Jana) of Wyoming, MI, Jamie (Deb) of Decatur, MI and Greg (Carol) of Sanford. Jim is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Arryn (Dave) Hansen, of Byron Center, Ryan (Chelsea) Chambers, of Paw Paw, Jordan Chambers of Decatur, Matthew (Laura) Chambers of Lansing, Melissa Chambers of Sanford, Hilary Chambers, of Portage, Ty (Hilary) Chambers of Midland, and Noah (Megan) Chambers of Marcellus; and 5 great-grandchildren, Campbelle and Lilly Hansen, Parker and Danielle Chambers and Emery Rapp. He is also survived by siblings, Linda (Clarence) Daughenbaugh, Ken Chambers and Bill Chambers. He was preceded in death by siblings, Myrtle and twin brother Charles. Cremation and a private memorial has been held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be considered to Faith United Methodist Church, 209 E Jefferson, Coleman, MI 48618 or The Sanford Senior Center, 3243 N. West River Rd, Sanford, MI 48657. To sign online guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com Arrangements made with Cremation Society of Mid Michigan.
