Obituary of Calvin Eugene Rice

Calvin Eugene Rice, age 92, of Coleman, passed away November 7, 2020 at his home surrounded by family. Calvin was born January 29, 1928 in Detroit, to the late James and Alettie Juliaette (Hudson) Rice. Calvin married Emi Jo Whalen on December 2, 1953 in Detroit. Calvin served in the Army with the 82nd Airborne Division, and spent several years working for Ford Motor Company and Chrysler Corporation before moving the family north, eventually to Coleman, and beginning his 31-year career at Dow Chemical in Midland. Calvin enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, and tying his own flies for trout fishing. He was an avid reader and spent much of his later years on his computer. Calvin is survived by his wife, Emi Jo of Coleman; son, Calvin (Reva) Rice of Louisiana, daughter, Cheryl Rice-Geno of Florida, son, Tom (Vicky) Rice of Florida; and daughter, Lisa (Charles) Hund of Coleman; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and one brother, Thomas Rice of Tucson, AZ. Calvin was preceded in death by one daughter, Ann Ives/Beaver; his parents, his brother, Warren Rice; and his sisters, Mary Jane, Flora Louise, and JoAnn.
