Obituary of Shirley O. Bennett

Bennett, Shirley O. West Branch, MI Shirley, age 87, passed away on November 14, 2020. She was born in Corunna, Michigan, April 20, 1933 to the late Willis and Thelma Goodhart Bradley. She grew up in the Holly / Fenton area and in her Senior year, moved to rural West Branch to live with her grandparents. She graduated from West Branch High School in 1950. It was while she was in West Branch that she became friends with Geraldine Withey, who introduced her to her brother Bill Bennett. Bill was the love of her life, and they were married in July right after her graduation from high school in 1950. Shirley was a farmer’s wife, upholsterer, co-owner of a fabric store, and later a trucking partner to Bill. In retirement they travelled in almost every form of camper except tenting! Traveling to Canada, Alaska and many states. She enjoyed sewing and later quilting, was an excellent artist, poet, card player, and a darn good bread and doughnut maker. Shirley is survived by her 5 children, Sharon (David) Burdine of West Branch , Vicki (Richard) Matthews of Kasilof, AK, Jean (Alan) Peter of West Branch, Scott (Karen) Bennett of Ninilchik, AK and Jodi (Leonard) Everitt of Prescott; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Julie) Peter, Melvin (Jaime) Matthews, Bradley (Tammy Foskett) Peter, Andrew (Katie) Matthews, Brian (Juliet) Artman, Anthony (Callie) Peter, Fredrick (Amanda Mahoney) Bennett, Quinn Bennett, Samuel (Chelsea) Bennett, Dustin Everitt and Logan Everitt, April (Jim) Zettel, Becky (Chris) Lattimer, Dwight (Susan) Burdine, Lisa Burdine, Kaylene (Brian Knoll) Everitt, and Emily (Josh) Ratledge; 22 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Carol Jickling of Sterling; sister-in-law, Betty Bennett of Prescott; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Bill in March 2012. Due to Covid, a Celebration of Life is being planned and will be announced at a later date.
