Martin Hornick

Obituary of Martin Frederick Hornick

Hornick, Martin F. Frankenmuth MI (formerly of St. Charles MI) Martin passed away peacefully at home with family and friends on December 10, 2020 after a year-long battle with cancer. He was born on October 4, 1939, the first-born child, to the late Frank and Francis (Kutz) Hornick. He was a man of many trades and talents, but his greatest pride was in his family and his work. He retired from General Motors, was a member of the Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, and the Masonic Lodge F. & A.M. He also enjoyed dancing in Frankenmuth, bicycling on Mackinaw Island, and recycling precious metals. Martin married Carol Bendes of St. Charles MI, and she predeceased him in 2005. He is survived by his children, John and (Teri) Hornick of Georgia, Julie Hornick of Michigan, Joan Dion of Colorado, Jennifer (Larry) Warner of Michigan; grandchildren, Alaina & Leah Hornick, Christopher Dion, Johnathon & Wesley Tidwell; great-grandchildren, Denver & River Biggs; sisters and brother-in-law, Carol Gilmour, Rosemary (Lane) Cooper, and Sue Coon; a niece, Melanie Newhouse; nephews, Eric & Sean Gilmour; his friend and companion, Cheryl Schutt and her children, Matthew (Kasey) and Kristen Schutt. A Memorial Service is being planned for Spring 2021. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to Wellspring Hospice of Frankenmuth Michigan. The family extends their appreciation and thankfulness for the amazing care they provided. There are not enough words to express the spirit and the significant impact his 81 years had on the tapestry of our lives, but his spirit and smile will live on within us always.
