Gary Sahr

Obituary of Gary Robert Sahr

Gary Robert Sahr, age 77 of Midland, MI, with is wife by his side, passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord December 21, 2020, after a courageous battle with kidney disease. Gary was born in Saginaw, MI, March 15, 1943 to the late Harvey and Ruth (Babechenko) Sahr. After graduating from Akron-Fairgrove High School, he honorably served his country in the United States Army Reserves. Gary was a machinist by trade and retired in 2003. Gary was an avid hunter, outdoorsman, golfer, and bowler, and raised and trained hunting dogs. He had a special talent of being able to fix and build anything, as proven by building their family home. Gary loved working on large machinery, especially tractors, which he would buy, repair and sell…then moved on to get the next “fixer upper”. Gary enjoyed the quiet life of retirement, but his greatest joys were the times he spent with his family, especially those spent playing golf and fishing with his grandsons. Gary married his high school sweetheart, Carol Osborn, on September 21, 1963, and recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. Surviving are his wife Carol; their children, Tim (Susana) Sahr of Pleasant Lake, MI, Heidi (Ron) Haines of Fairfield, IA; and grandchildren, Kiley, Aaron and Evan Haines. He is also survived by a sister, Marilyn (Richard) Goik; nephews, Richard Goik Jr., Michael (Michelle) Goik, Judy Goik, and godson, Patrick (Jen Barrett) Goik; niece, Kay (Boris) Teper; sister-in-law, Connie (Lee) Butts; nieces, Renee (Travis) McCoy, Aimee (Todd) Schultz, and Shellie (Lloyd) Rayner; sister-in-law, Laura (Jerry) Lalonde; niece, Sarah (Marshall) Gregory; and many great nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his infant son, Jeffrey Allen; sister and brother-in-law, Emily and Keith Gohsman; in-laws, Larry and Elizabeth Osborn; and brother-in-law, Larry Osborn Jr. A Celebration of Life is being planned. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to The American Diabetes Association or St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Midland, MI.
