Obituary of Ellen Louise Drummond
Our Mother, Ellen Louise (Hatch) Drummond was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1935 and the whole country flew their flags. She was born to Clare Harrison Hatch and Ellen Marie (Ward) Hatch, the second of 5 children. She graduated from Saginaw High School. Ellen married George Edward “Ed” Drummond on August 20, 1954. They had 5 children, Jack (Cathy) Drummond, Judy Drummond, Donald Drummond, Richard (Carol) Drummond, and David (Denise) Drummond of Michigan.
Mom was a giving, caring woman that spent most of her working life in retail including Vesicio’s, 3D, Joanne’s and Subway. When Mom & Dad moved to South Branch she worked at the Post Office. She enjoyed doing crafts, silk flowers, painting, and jewelry making. She was especially talented at sewing, making heirloom quilts & tree skirts for her family, an Ape Suit & Santa Suit for her husband, Ed and a Mrs. Claus outfit for herself. She knitted beautifully, recently making felted wool hats. She was an excellent cook, learning out of necessity and love for her family. Her family and spending time with them was her greatest joy. We have many wonderful memories of camping each summer, a trip to Canada with the Robbins Family, a trip to Colorado with our Grandma Hatch, and many Enduro’s (motorcycle races) “running gas” for Dad. Wow, she could drive that van down those dirt roads! This summer all of her children, their spouses, 3 granddaughters, and 2 great-grandsons vacationed on Indian Lake at a friend’s cabin. Mom attended Midland Free Methodist Church each Sunday with Judy.
She will be missed greatly by her brother Francis (Ava) Hatch, her children, 13 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren. She loved holding those babies! She was predeceased by her parents, 3 brothers (Arthur, Gary, Edwin), her husband Ed, son Don, granddaughter Jessica Drummond, and great grandson, Joseph Moyle. Mom was welcomed by many in Heaven on December 29, 2020.
Mom had health issues, but Covid 19 ended her life. Due to Covid a funeral will not be held. A Memorial/Burial is planned when it is safe to do so. Please wear your mask and wash your hands. With all that family, our Mother spent 12 days in the hospital alone & disoriented. The nurses were fantastic, but family was not allowed to be with her.
