Obituary of Charles Ward Johnson

JOHNSON, CHARLES WARD BLANCHARD, MI Charles Ward “Shorty” Johnson, age 87, passed away January 14, 2021. Shorty was born in Negaunee, MI, on January 3, 1934, to Charles Walter Johnson and Esther Pearl (Gibbs) Johnson. He is survived by his spouse of nearly 65 years, Betty Jo Hindall. He is also survived by four children, Dennis (Debi) Johnson of Vestaburg, MI, Paige (Bob) McCully, of Orleans, MI, Mark Johnson of Blanchard, MI, Sue Roberts of Munising, MI; seven grandchildren, Jason (Brittany) Johnson of St. Johns, MI, Andrea Johnson of CA, Rachel Johnson of Vestaburg, MI, Kristen Colley of East Lansing, MI, Nicholas Colley of Poplar Grove, IL, Joshua (Samantha) Colley of East Lansing, MI, Alisha (Kevin) Rudden of Ishpeming, MI; nine great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Finnigan Johnson, Damian Colley, Ceili Osborn, Whitney Colley, Logan Colley, Lilly, Zeb and Charlie Jo Rudden; one sister, Mary Fuller of Greenville, MI; one brother-in-law, Johne Miller of Pinellas Park, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. Shorty spent the last weeks of his life at the Saginaw VA Medical Center in the Palliative Care unit. His medical team did an exemplary job managing his care during his last days. Upon his passing, Shorty received a Final Salute at the VA Medical Center, concluding with the presentation of the American flag to his wife, Jo. No additional services are planned at this time. For those planning an expression of sympathy, are asked to consider a Memorial Contribution to the Saginaw VA Medical Center to thank the wonderful staff of the Palliative Care unit for their tireless kindness and care of Shorty as he completed his journey here on earth.
