Alfonso Ortiz

Obituary of Alfonso Ortiz

September 6, 1936 – April 28, 2021 Alfonso Ortiz of Midland was born in Carrizo Springs, Texas to the late George and Paula Ortiz. Al attended Midland schools graduating from Midland High in 1956, moved to Chicago, and joined the U.S. Army in 1959. Al lived and worked in Chicago for sixty years before returning to Midland. While stationed at Ft. Knox, Kentucky in 1960, Al was most proud of having won the base’s middleweight boxing championship title and, at the time, his name mentioned in the boxing magazine, Ring. He developed a life-long taste for strong European coffee after being stationed overseas, and compared whatever espresso he drank afterwards - to what he had…”in Paris.” Al is predeceased by brothers Trinidad, Alberto and Sam, and sister, Oralia. Survivors include sons Clinton and Derek, grandson Ariel, a brother Rey and sister, Benita (Bud), and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the hospice care staffs, neighbors and friends for their thoughtful support. To sign an on-line guest book, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com
