Having been blessed to know this man, he was a mentor to me for many years. I came to the railyard in Essexville with my mom a young 14ish old kid and he and his crew asked if I'd like to sit up in the engine. well, what kid wouldn't. he then spent the next several years teaching me about trains while I rode along with him in the summers and after school. He gave me more on-the-job training than any kid has even been allowed to get on the railroad and he cemented my love for trains and also taught me so many things in the process. I absolutely loved sitting and listening to his stories from "the old days" when things seemed so much simpler. Dick, you were a giant part of my life and I'll always thank you for taking me under your wing and being so kind. To Dicks wife and family, I'm so very sorry for your loss and I pray you find comfort in knowing he's now healthy and pain-free. God bless you all!
