Ruth Lillian Myers passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at the age of 89 years. She was born in Saginaw, Michigan on January 18, 1934, to the late Alby and Delia (Wolfgram) Schultz. On July 2, 1955, Ruth married Charles William Van Zandt. He predeceased her on February 20, 1994. After his death, Ruth spent a year helping LCMS missionaries in Thailand. She then returned to Saginaw and reconnected with Peace Lutheran Church. There she met and subsequently married Dale Myers on July 14, 2001. He survives her.

Ruth graduated from Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw in May 1952 and then attended Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois (now Concordia University Chicago) from 1952 where she received a teaching certificate in 1954..

She loved her church where she served on a number of boards and committees. She especially enjoyed leading her women’s Bible study group. When she was no longer able to do that she facilitated a grief support group. Her final ministry was to send a personal note to all of the families on the Peace Membership roster who she didn’t already know. She didn’t quite finish writing individual responses to the 60 notes that people wrote back to her.

Ruth enjoyed knitting, counted cross stitch, and especially gardening. As her physical mobility decreased, she gradually gave these up. She was an excellent cook and baker, and continued her work in the kitchen until the end.

Surviving besides her husband are two sons, Gregory Van Zandt (Debbie) and his children Josh Van Zandt and Rachel Van Zandt, and her daughter Phoebe Marsh; Peter VanZandt (Megan Gibbons) and their daughters, Eleanor and Molly; step-children, David (Darlene) Myers, and his sons, Mason and Heath; Samantha (Andrew) McClintick and their daughters, Stephanie and her children Nova and Luna, Lois, and Joy (Noah) Sackett; Judy (David) Carlson, and their son, Paul; Paul Myers and his children Noah, Sydney, and Ethan; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by a son, Andrew; and siblings, Donna Kreger, June Kreger, Floyd Schultz, Marian Netzley, Bob Schultz, and Rev. Joe Schultz.

A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 19, 2023 at Peace Lutheran Church, 3427 Adams Avenue, Saginaw Michigan. Pastor Erik Schmidt will officiate. Ruth’s family will welcome visitors at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
