I didn't see Josephine again after we moved away from our congregation in Bay City back in 1997, but she was such a kind sister that we all loved. It was clear to me as a child that she loved Jehovah, was happy and faithful, and it left a deep impression on me. I remember her fondly. We are taught to meditate on the integrity and good examples of ones who have endured. Josephine Torres and her mom Sarah Torres have been among those when I do this. Here is a photo from our last book study before we moved. She is in front center with the kid in white (that's me).

When I think of Josephine as my sister and friend the words I use are loyalty and faithfulness, kindness and generosity, patience and strength.
I have known her for over 30 years and her outstanding loyalty and faithfulness to our God Jehovah impacted my life in many ways. I loved when she would reminisce about the good times and the Not So Good Times in her life. She always gave credit to Jehovah for the good times and always gave credit to Jehovah for helping her to survive and Thrive the bad times.
She was always so kind and generous to so many people. Always cooking and sharing what she had with others. What my friend could do with a crock pot amazed me and everyone that she would share with. She didn't have a lot material, but like the poor Widow she always shared her best. We are all going to miss her assembly cookies! Not only did she make sure I had a sweet treat but she also would bring me a cushion so my back wouldn't hurt!
She was always thinking of her friends and family.
One of our favorite times together is when we visited bethel. We spent a wonderful spiritual time together that week she was also able to see her friend Sue from Florida. Unfortunately Sue died last year but Josephine was able to go visit her in Florida before that happened.
I said earlier she was patient and strong. Well, I don't know if she was born that way or if it was Jehovah's holy spirit that helped her to put up with me and some of her other unique friends and family. Jo had this silent strength about her. I know one of the scriptures that she had taped in different places at her house was taken from Isaiah 15:30 which states ,"your strength will be in keeping calm and showing Trust."
And that is how my friend lived her life with purpose and service to our God and then to family and friends. I'm going to miss you but it's just around the corner.

Josephine was truly "a friend who sticks closer than a brother." Prov 18:24
She was elegant, graceful, refined and generous. But most of all she loved her Father Jehovah. I long for the day when He will restore her to life in paradise and we can continue our friendship.
