In Sept of 2023, my brother Gary-Ray called me & he told me that I need to come up to Michigan to see dad. He told me that dad has lost a great deal of weight & that dad appears to be going downhill medically wise. I told Gary-Ray, "I will go up there to visit with dad". I also told him "I don't care who knows that I am coming up to visit, however; I don't want dad to know.
Within 1 week, I had the time to take off from work & my husband had me on a plane flying up to Michigan.
Gary-Ray & his wife took me to dad's house. They went inside of dad's house while I sat in dad's driveway in my brother's truck. I called dad on my cell phone & I told him that my husband is making flight arrangements for me a flight up to Michigan. I asked dad, "When is it a good time to come up for a visit"? Dad said, "Oh, you can come up here anytime kid". After dad said that, I made crazy noises on my end of the phone & I talked like a broken robot & then I hung up the phone.
I grabbed my fully loaded overnight bag that my stepmother made for me. It's a shoulder bag made from dad's old blue jeans.
And now it's time for me to make my grand entrance. I walked right into dad's house & I saw dad sitting in his recliner. Dad is looking at me & then I asked from across the living room, "How about now"? The look of surprise & shock on dad's face was priceless! Even dad's dog Lucy was glad to see me!
Later that evening, dad was teaching me how to dance the 1st 3 steps of the 2 Step Dance. We were on the patio, with his outlaw country music playing. Dad & I were side by side touching hip to hip dancing away. It felt so good as dad & I were having the time of our lives.
This moment, plus many other fine moments & fond memories of my dad are embedded into my heart forever...
