Obituary of William A. Lacker
William Albert Lacker passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Cooper Covenant after a brief illness and a long life. Bill was born on November 26, 1929 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Albert and Esther (Zoellner) Lacker. On June 22, 1957 Bill married Marcia Caton at Covenant Methodist Church in Evanston, Ill and she survives him.
Bill was a lifelong Saginaw resident; he graduated from Arthur Hill High School and served in the US Army during the Korean conflict. Bill attended Albion College on the GI Bill where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1957. He received his Master's Degree from U of M. It was at Albion that Bill met Marcia. Bill was a dedicated educator; after teaching in Howell and Bridgeport, Michigan he spent many years as a social worker for the Saginaw Public Schools and retired in 1989. Following retirement Bill volunteered for many local charities, enjoyed camping across the United States, and visiting his children, grandchildren, friends, and family.
In addition to his wife Marcia, he is survived by his brother James William Lacker of Gaylord, Michigan; daughter Susan Lacker Salvat (David Salvat) of Portage, Michigan; son Stephen James Lacker (Nadine Gerdts) of Brookline, Massachusetts; three grandsons, George Salvat, Henry Salvat and William Gerdts Lacker; and many nieces and nephews.
The family thanks A & D Home Health Care for their love and care that helped Bill remain at home. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on August 14, 2018 at 2 PM at the Historical Kochville Township Hall on Kochville Road.
