Obituary of Michael A. Fosler
Michael Antony Fosler was born November 24, 1955, and died February 9, 2019 at Genesys Regional Hospital. Cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, March 3, 2019, from 2:00 5:00 pm, at the VFW Post #3720, 3131 Elms Rd, Swartz Creek, MI 48973. Michael's family and friends urge all who worked with him or for him or knew of him in any aspect of his extraordinary life to attend this joyful celebration.
Michael was born November 24, 1955, the son of Roger David Fosler and Rieta Bacalis Fosler. Michael was a unique and extraordinary person. A gifted athlete, Michael was injured at age 18 and was a quadriplegic for 45 years. Michael never looked back and attached life with a spirit many wish they had.
He attained his Bachelor degree from UM-Flint in Political Science in 1980 and completed his Masters of Administration Program in 1984. He went on to have a successful in career in the social work field.
His many professional highlights include: Executive Director Autism Society of Michigan, Director-City of Flint Aging and Handicapped, Director of Programs and Services for United Cerebral Palsy Association of Michigan, Co-Founder of Disability Network, Member in Washington, D.C. of Pres. G.H.W. Bush's legislative committee to enact the historic 'American's With Disabilities Act' in 1990, and named Michigan Public Citizen of the Year by the National Association of Social Workers in 1985.
Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Rieta Bacalis Fosler (to whom he credited for all that he achieved and overcame); uncles, Edward A. Fosler, Jessie Bacalis, Ted Bacalis; grandfathers and grandmothers.
He is survived by his father, Roger David Fosler; stepmother, Carol Shepherd; brother, Gregory Fosler; sisters, Cynthia Dallal and Deborah Fosler; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews; step brothers and sisters.
Michael had many friends and people who provided care and loved him throughout his life and we are grateful for each and every one.
