Joy Rick Atkins, of Bridgeport, MI (1923-2020) passed away at Bavarian Comfort of Bridgeport on August 9th 2020. Joy, a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother was born September 30, 1923 in Hillsdale, MI daughter of the late Alice Phillips Rick and H. Grover Rick. Joy graduated from Hillsdale College and earned her Master's Degree in Education from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. She began her career teaching English in North Branch, moving on to Sacred Heart Academy in Mt. Pleasant, Buena Vista High School, and finished her career in Frankenmuth as an English teacher and counselor. Upon retirement Joy enjoyed writing the newsletter for Amigo Mobility Center in Bridgeport. Her passion for writing led to the publication of numerous poems and a memoir, Reflections On Sage Lake (completed at the age of 83). As a dedicated volunteer with the Saginaw Humane Society for a number of years, she was able to pursue another lifelong passion, the rescue and care for stray animals. Joy was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Martin G. Atkins, and her brother, Philip G. Rick. She is survived by three children and 10 grandchildren. Son, Peter Atkins and his children, Angela Damic, Adam; David, Brandon, Keeley, Anjel; daughter, Nancy (Wayne) Marinclin and their children, Kyle (Krysta), Matt (Sarah); "My Son Craig" (Kimberly) Atkins and their children, Ben (Cathy), Andy (Miranda) and great-grandchildren, Braelyn Damic, Jackson and Brooks Marinclin. She also leaves behind her faithful dog, Doby. Joy loved her "ten acres" where she lived until the age of 96, her beloved cottage on Sage Lake, and most importantly her family. A celebration of life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on August 21, 2020 at Bridgeport Community Church, 3821 State St., Bridgeport, MI. Rev. Ronald L. Sinclair will officiate. The family will be present at 10 a.m. for visitation prior to the service. PLEASE NOTE THAT IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE ORDER OF THE GOVENOR, MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING WILL BE REQUIRED.
